There are many
wonderful sites out there that are being
turned down for awards simply because they
choose to use the comet cursor on their sites, This is a great injustice to
those applicants because it demonstrates prejudice towards those sites.
The allegations
of comet cursor being spyware is grossly
incorrect. Please check out the link below to
read more on this issue and to read the retractions and corrections
that was published on ABC News, PC Magazine, ZDNet, Time Digital, CNET, Business Week, and the Christian Science Monitor:
Comet
Cursor's Commitment to Privacy.
Also
the allegations that it's a forced plug-in is incorrect...You have
the option to say "No" when it ask to install the comet cursor plug-ins..
thus preventing any so called spyware from
being installed on your machine... but to
basically refuse to award a site because they
have this service denies the web page owner "THEIR" right to choose.
If
you do not get a window asking you if it can
install the comet cursor plug-in that is your fault not comet cursors
as this is a security/privacy setting in your
own browser that needs to be set to not
automatically accept ActiveX plug-ins.
Comet cursor has been harassed and targeted
long enough, its time to let well enough alone and
to let potential applicants have the freedom
to use this service without fear of being
ridiculed.
There are
programs out there such as Ad-aware which can
be found at the following address:http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
that can be used to eliminate spyware
programs, this is a free program for personal
use.
Adding
comet cursor on a few select pages should be
allowed, as long as its done in moderation.
Those
sites that use comet cursor should state so on
their index page and give some kind of
indication where they are located so that we
the web surfers have the option to not go to those pages.
Disqualifying
or penalizing sites who use comet cursor is a
way of forcing your own personal views on the web site
owner, that is not what
we are here for.
We
as web site evaluators are here to
evaluate sites based on content, design,
functionality, use of html knowledge and the
over all appeal to the family unit as well as
the web community in general... "NOT"
on if
they have comet cursor on their site or not.
